Årnfelt, Thomas: Gå På is a set of miniature wargame rules for the early eighteenth century, allowing you to play the battles of the War of the Spanish Succession and of the Great Northern War as well as various other conflicts, including the Jacobite rebellions, the Russo-Turkish war of 1711, the Balkan wars of 1715-18 etc. And although the core rules focus on the period from 1700 to 1739, they can easily be adapted for the 17th century, or the mid 18th century as well. The rules use a rather abstract system to capture the atmosphere of the 18th century battlefield, but still contain enough detail to give the different armies character. Focus is on command and control, and on morale. Equally as important as where you decide to focus your attention is what happens where you do not The rules model the differences between the varying tactics, and uses the battalion as the basic unit, as this was the smallest tactical unit in battles of the period. |
